The Beginning

30th March 2016

So....our life possessions are packed and stored. The Eagle is loaded and ready to fly. I think we are ready for the most amazing journey of our lives. Australia here we come!!!




First stop for the "shake down" Double Island Point on the Noosa North Shore. Our favourite place.
The weather couldn't have been more perfect. Balmy breezes, full moon rising from the ocean. Perfect holiday weather for lazing in the hammock.

So we are off to a great start. Next stop back to Wurtulla for a couple of days with Joel and his lot, then Brisbane to farewell Juz, Bec and the ragamuffins before heading out to Queen Mary Falls.

Kimba and Iron Knob

Kimba 22nd - 23rd August 2017 Well, here we are, halfway across Australia. It's only taken us seventeen months! Kimba is geographically halfway across Australia on the Eyre Highway. Population around 1,000, so not a big town.  North from our last stop at Whyalla. There was enough to see and do to keep us occupied for a couple of days, and the weather was beautiful and sunny!!! The first point of interest had to be a photo to prove we are halfway. The next on the tourist route is a picture with the big galah. Stunning hey? No-one seems to know the significance of the big galah, or its relevance. The town provides a fabulous camp for $5 per night at the Recreation Reserve. Complete with shower and toilets. Not that we need that now we have the The Penthouse 'd move along!  Fantastic large area walking distance to town, which I did twice. This mural on the side of one of the sheds and the reserve. Silo Art is becoming increasingly popular...

East MacDonnell Ranges

The 17th - 23rd May 2016 TREPHINA GORGE This is a brilliant National Park camp. $6.60 a night! And this view from our site. Only one other campervan here. Another couple - Tim and Martine from Melbourne. Great people our age, and not shy of a chat. Perfect!  And it is soooooooo quiet! There are designated spots that are very spaced out so no risk of anyone parking right on top of us! Love it! First night got set up in time to watch the sunset against the rock. Not a bad view from our "front yard"!  Almost full moon. Moonrise. Feeling the serenity! DAY ONE The Gorge Trail - 1 hour loop This walk was our favourite so far. Almost like a mini Kings Canyon walk. Gorge--ous! Here we go again! Up, up, up. View down to the dry river bed. A lot of the rivers in this region are dry on the surface most of the time. The water flows subterraneanly. The common trees here in the east ranges are River Red Gums. The gums love it in these sandy rivers because they have one long tap root that s...
