Daly Waters to Katherine Gorge

11th June - 15th June 2016

ELLIOTT

Stopped to top up the water tanks with fresh town water in Elliott before hitting the highway again. Man.....thousands of bats. Have never seen so many!

DALY WATERS

Nice short drive up the road to Daly Waters Pub. We called in here last trip for breakfast and were so impressed with the food it had to be another stop. This time we camped the night next to the pub with Deb and Harry. The campground nothing to write home about, but it was OK for a one nighter. At least the showers were nice and clean!!!

This is an iconic outback pub. So much character.

The thong tree!

All set up for a big night of entertainment.

First up a bit of country and western! He was actually very entertaining.

Deb and I getting into the swing of things!!!

A few drinks at the ready. Gotta take advantage of happy hour prices 😜😜😜.

We had an absolutely fabulous night. Food was amazing. Entertainment was old fashioned and got the dancing feet going. There was a bunch of teenagers on a school excursion to Arhem Land from Melbourne. All up doing the actions, and following our moves. Hilarious. Not sure they will be doing the same back in Melbourne?

Tourist Shack.

A Great Bowerbird having his brekky at the pub.

BITTER SPRINGS

We camped here last time too. Bitter Springs is next to Mataranka. 300 litres per second feed this spring fed chain of pools. Staggering. The water is lukewarm and crystal clear. The chain of pools have a very slight current. Perfect for drifting along in the noodle chair!

All set for the first drift!

View from the camper. Beautiful.

Nice cosy tropical camp.

Not a bad spot for Sundowners across from our camp.

And this is the view.

Next morning up early...well...8.00am for another drift down the pools. So much better. Only one other person there at this time of day!

The water is so clear.

Happy drifter.

Underwater shot.

Deb cruising in the noodle chair.

Dezzi on the job for photos. He also came along to have our towels and thongs at the ready. What a man! Especially since I had forgotten the noodle chair and he had to walk back for it!!!

Just thought this was lovely.

KATHERINE GORGE

Also another revisit location. Two nights here to do the Gorge walk again and go kayaking.

More bats here. These ones were fruit bats. Once again thousands of them!

Just Harry and I for the walk today.

Looking down to the campground.

Obligatory tourist shot.

Next day kayaking with Dezzi. A wonderful, peaceful way to experience the majesty of the gorge.

Just a few to choose from. Think we will have the yellow one.

And we're off!

At the top of the 2nd gorge. End of the line for us. Sooooo good for swimming.

Settled into a little rock seat and just let the water run around me. Heaven!

Dez kept the kayak safe.

There is a 3 metre resident freshwater crocodile in the 2nd gorge. We were lucky enough to see her. It is nesting time now in the sandy banks.

Dezzi getting a bit too close for my liking!

OK,  time to back away!

Paddle faster Dezzi!!!

Lots of these little fellas around the camp.

Love it here.

Next stop Lady Edith Falls.

Esperance - Cape Le Grand - Norseman

Esperance 12th - 14th May 2017 The weather is starting to get chillier, which is a shame. The ocean is so blue, crystal clear and begging to floated in! A couple of days in Esperance to get the washing done, stock up on groceries and revel in this magnificent coastline before heading out to Cape Le Grand National Park. Great, quiet caravan park. Loving the cooler weather for camp fires. The foreshore in town was perfect for a picnic lunch and stroll along the jetty. Day two and off to explore the coastline. There is a tourist drive/loop called Great Ocean Drive. And it was great! First stop, the Pink Lake. Not very pink anymore, but magnificent on this incredibly calm morning. So many spectacular, magnificent, stunning, beautiful bays. Crystal clear sparkling water. The superlatives go on and on. I'll let the pictures tell the story. Simply taking it all in. A scramble down the stairs and over the rock pools. ...

West MacDonnell Ranges

10th - 17th April 2016 ORMISTON GORGE Unfortunately  we couldn't get into Redbank Gorge. The road was still flooded from the rain over the weekend, so we started at Ormiston Gorge. The day was freezing cold. Temperature read 12 degrees, feels like 6!!!!! At least the sun was struggling through again. Great campground. We didn't get there and set up until late in the day, so only had a quick look at the Gorge and then back to the van to get toasty warm. Doonas and the hot water bottles. Cosy! There are a couple of walks at Ormiston.  The first morning we did the short walk to the lookout.  WOW! WOW! WOW! The ranges are breathtakingly, stunningly, beautiful at every turn. The red red rock. Green green foliage. Blue blue sky.  Still chilly first thing. Had to break out the beanie. From the track looking back towards the campground. Happy hikers at the lookout. A lot of the rock is like this. Thin layer upon layer. Lots of very spikey spinnifex. Narrow track through the ...

Nindigully Pub to Cunnamulla

NINDIGULLY PUB We stayed at Nindigully Pub at the end of our last trip. The epitome of the great Aussie Pub so we were keen to stay there again. The free camp area is huge and plenty of dusty spots under gum trees situated on the Moonie River.  Standing guard over the freeloaders is the very rustic Pub. Crooked planking along the verandah, old timber bar, formal dining room full of history. Love it. Just a pity that now the barmaids (sorry staff) were Irish backpackers who lacked any enthusiasm or welcome. One couldn't even add 7 + 6 and didn't know what entree was. Hhhmmmmmm!!! Nevertheless we settled in for an ale or two until we got sick of the techno night club music.......really.......out here? A couple of peaceful lazy days reading, walking along the river and generally doing nothing!  Nindigilly Pub is Queensland’s oldest hotel located in its original condition and position on the banks of the Moonie River. The license was issued in 1864 after opera...
