Cape Range National Park

15th October - 26th October 2016

Another fabulous National Park camping ground. There are several areas to choose from in the Cape Range Park. The winds were still howling so we chose Kurrajong, tucked behind the dunes. It was fantastic. Just a two minute walk over the dune to the beach, and straight into the water to snorkel.

Absolutely loving the Ningaloo Coast.

Our home for a week. Well spaced sites and clean loos!

From here.......

Over here........

To here!

You can see from the water how windy it is. But the snorkelling is still great! It just looks like a boring rock reef, but the fish life is amazing when you get down there.

My underwater photography not that great being a novice snorkeller and trying not to drown and take photos at the same time. Just click, click, click and hope for the best!!!

Bits and pieces of bright coral, too.

So many different bays to explore everyday.

This is one is called Oyster Stacks. Didn't see too many oysters though.

Another great snorkelling area.

The water is so clear, and perfect swimming temp.

Looking back towards the rock ledge you have to clamber down to get in the water.

Getting wet not Dezziz thing, so he is always my personal lifeguard!

A-O.K.! So good.

It's not the beach without seagulls.

Next stop Turquoise Bay. The beauty of this place leaves you speechless. Turquoise Bay was named number 4 in the Australian Top 20 beaches this year. I can see why. Heavenly.

Yep....and more snorkelling. Happy, happy days.

Lots of these very lovely jelly fish at one of the bays.

I have walked for miles along these beaches. So incredibly peaceful.

Looking back towards Turquoise Bay.

Another day, another beautiful bay, more strong winds. This is Osprey Bay. Turtles galore. But try and get a photo!!!!!

And the amazing white sands.

While we were here my beautiful, amazing Granny decided after 104 years enough was enough and slipped away. I flew to Warrnambool to be with family and say a final farewell, and Dez stayed behind to hold the fort.

It was an epic journey...more in the next Blog, but a journey I am so glad I made.

Dez ventured further down the coast to the lower reach of Cape Range to Yardie Creek. And did a sterling job of the photos.

For the brave with high clearance 4WDs you can cross the creek and continue south to Coral Bay on the dirt road.

The entrance to the creek crossing.

Someone checking the depth before crossing.

No camping here.

Views of the gorge and creek.

Looking to the creek mouth.

Dez has a fascination for gnarly tree roots.

Amazing that this little flower could grow in a dead tree!

The Yardie Creek Gorge walk. Dezzi was very happy to only do half because I wasn't there!!!

Why have I put this in you might wonder. Well...boring photo but very funny story to go with it. This little collapsible tub is used to stand in when we have a shower to save the soapy water for further foot washing. In the middle of the night Dez heard a noise outstide. Off to investigate - stark naked - to encounter two big kangaroos drinking the water. Well, he decided to shoo them away with a thong. The roos did not take kindly to this and turned to have a go at him. Next thing I knew Dez bolted back into the van faster than lightning!!! I laughed till I cried. Lesson learned. Don't mess with kangaroos in the middle of the night when you're naked!

Kimba and Iron Knob

Kimba 22nd - 23rd August 2017 Well, here we are, halfway across Australia. It's only taken us seventeen months! Kimba is geographically halfway across Australia on the Eyre Highway. Population around 1,000, so not a big town.  North from our last stop at Whyalla. There was enough to see and do to keep us occupied for a couple of days, and the weather was beautiful and sunny!!! The first point of interest had to be a photo to prove we are halfway. The next on the tourist route is a picture with the big galah. Stunning hey? No-one seems to know the significance of the big galah, or its relevance. The town provides a fabulous camp for $5 per night at the Recreation Reserve. Complete with shower and toilets. Not that we need that now we have the The Penthouse 'd move along!  Fantastic large area walking distance to town, which I did twice. This mural on the side of one of the sheds and the reserve. Silo Art is becoming increasingly popular...

East MacDonnell Ranges

The 17th - 23rd May 2016 TREPHINA GORGE This is a brilliant National Park camp. $6.60 a night! And this view from our site. Only one other campervan here. Another couple - Tim and Martine from Melbourne. Great people our age, and not shy of a chat. Perfect!  And it is soooooooo quiet! There are designated spots that are very spaced out so no risk of anyone parking right on top of us! Love it! First night got set up in time to watch the sunset against the rock. Not a bad view from our "front yard"!  Almost full moon. Moonrise. Feeling the serenity! DAY ONE The Gorge Trail - 1 hour loop This walk was our favourite so far. Almost like a mini Kings Canyon walk. Gorge--ous! Here we go again! Up, up, up. View down to the dry river bed. A lot of the rivers in this region are dry on the surface most of the time. The water flows subterraneanly. The common trees here in the east ranges are River Red Gums. The gums love it in these sandy rivers because they have one long tap root that s...

The Beginning

30th March 2016 So....our life possessions are packed and stored. The Eagle is loaded and ready to fly. I think we are ready for the most amazing journey of our lives. Australia here we come!!! First stop for the "shake down" Double Island Point on the Noosa North Shore. Our favourite place. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. Balmy breezes, full moon rising from the ocean. Perfect holiday weather for lazing in the hammock. Airing down the tyres before hitting the beach Camped on the beach Hours lazed away reading Even on holidays the "jobs" need to be done. Emptying the dunny! Water filling station Full moon over a stunning ocean Nothing beats a camp fire by full moon Looking south over Teewah Beach from Double Island Point The Leisha Track over to Rainbow Bay So we are off to a great start. Next stop back to Wurtulla for a couple of days with Joel and his lot, then Brisbane...
