Queen Mary Falls

30th March - 1st April 2016

Queen Mary Falls is in the Middle Ranges, a nice easy drive from Brisbane through Beaudesert, Boonah and then up the range. Fabulous narrow windy, lush drive. Well, for me, Dez doesn't like hills!!! At the peak is the headwaters of the Condamine River which then flows into the Murray/Darling basin.

The camp ground was lovely and we had a huge grassy area pretty much to ourselves. The walk to the Falls was a cruisey 2klm return stroll. A bonus for Dezzi, 'cos he doesn't get very excited about hikes!

The camp ground had loads of different birds, who would come right up to you. Two lazy nights here. Starting to relax!


Next stop Nindigully Pub out near St. George, after a grocery and grog top up in Warwick!

19th May - 16th May 2017 The Nullarbor ! People seems to either love it, or hate it. Many say it is so long and boring, with nothing to see. Others contradict and say there is so much to see, if only you take the time. Well.....let's see. We can't wait to explore the vastness of this part of Australia. Our rig all ready, set to go. Top up with fuel at Norseman. Lucky we only needed a little bit! And hit the road.....not the cyclist. Crazy! First bush camp at Afgan Rocks a couple of hundred k's down the road. A free camp on a property. Down the track. To a large clearing complete with dam and windmill. Very rural. Feeling fantastic. A roaring fire, drinks and snacks. Not a soul in sight. Just us and the emus. Oh yeah! This is the life. ...

Esperance - Cape Le Grand - Norseman

Esperance 12th - 14th May 2017 The weather is starting to get chillier, which is a shame. The ocean is so blue, crystal clear and begging to floated in! A couple of days in Esperance to get the washing done, stock up on groceries and revel in this magnificent coastline before heading out to Cape Le Grand National Park. Great, quiet caravan park. Loving the cooler weather for camp fires. The foreshore in town was perfect for a picnic lunch and stroll along the jetty. Day two and off to explore the coastline. There is a tourist drive/loop called Great Ocean Drive. And it was great! First stop, the Pink Lake. Not very pink anymore, but magnificent on this incredibly calm morning. So many spectacular, magnificent, stunning, beautiful bays. Crystal clear sparkling water. The superlatives go on and on. I'll let the pictures tell the story. Simply taking it all in. A scramble down the stairs and over the rock pools. ...

East MacDonnell Ranges

The 17th - 23rd May 2016 TREPHINA GORGE This is a brilliant National Park camp. $6.60 a night! And this view from our site. Only one other campervan here. Another couple - Tim and Martine from Melbourne. Great people our age, and not shy of a chat. Perfect!  And it is soooooooo quiet! There are designated spots that are very spaced out so no risk of anyone parking right on top of us! Love it! First night got set up in time to watch the sunset against the rock. Not a bad view from our "front yard"!  Almost full moon. Moonrise. Feeling the serenity! DAY ONE The Gorge Trail - 1 hour loop This walk was our favourite so far. Almost like a mini Kings Canyon walk. Gorge--ous! Here we go again! Up, up, up. View down to the dry river bed. A lot of the rivers in this region are dry on the surface most of the time. The water flows subterraneanly. The common trees here in the east ranges are River Red Gums. The gums love it in these sandy rivers because they have one long tap root that s...
